Gardaí called this, 'A reckless choice that could have cost lives'

During the St Patrick’s Bank Holiday road campaign, Gardaí in Kildare/Carlow arrested 17 motorists who were driving under the influence.

In Celbridge, one driver was recently arrested for drunk driving. Shockingly, this motorist was found to be nearly five times over the legal limit, with gardaí calling this, “A reckless choice that could have cost lives.”

This person was charged and now faces a court appearance.

Gardaí went on to encourage road users to “plan ahead” if they know they will be consuming alcohol by getting a lift from a family member, friend or booking a taxi. 

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in Kildare said on social media that there are no excuses for driving under the influence. This includes drivers who may think it's “just a few drinks” they’ve had, are “fine to drive” or justify it because its “only a short trip.” 

“Think before you drive. Someone’s life depends on it,” the spokesperson concluded.
