An Garda Síochána should urgently consider opening a garda station in Kill.

That’s according to Cllr Bill Clear who cited “the continued growth of Kill and the surrounding area.”

Cllr Clear also said that people living in the area have reported increases in crime and anti-social behaviour.

He wants local councilors to ask the garda commissioner to undertake a review of policing requirements in the village and the surrounding communities.

Cllr Clear said the review should include an assessment of current garda resources, response times and crime levels “with a view to providing a permanent garda presence in the village.”

The station in Kill closed in January 2013 - a move that was criticised by residents and Fianna Fáil TD James Lawless , who helped launch a text alert system for the area and said the people served by the closed garda stations were now left exposed.
