Less than a third of Kildare's roads are salted during winter weather

Less than a third of Kildare's roads are salted during wintry weather conditions.

Cllr Fintan Brett expressed concern about the impact of frost and ice on roads in the Kilteel area.

Kildare County Council says information about roads treated are on its website.

Some 30.3% of roads are in the winter maintenance plan, made up of 10 routes.

In Kildare, approximately 705 kms of the local, regional and national secondary road network are treated and this equates to the treatment of approximately 26.5% of roads.

When motorways and national primary roads, which are treated by Transport Infrastructure Ireland are added in, it rises to 30.3%.
