From requests for free pay parking in Maynooth to traffic safety at Allenwood Cross and dog waste dispensers, November's Clane Maynooth Municipal District meeting – held on November 7 next in Naas, Co Kildare – promises a wide variety of motions.
First up, Cllr Donna Phelan (FF) requests that the council consider plans to suspend pay parking in Maynooth for the month of December.
This, argues Cllr Phelan, would be a “gesture of goodwill” to local residents and businesses, in light of recent traffic disruption in the town.
Cllr William Durkan (FG) asks that the council inspect the low volume of speed signage in the Drehid and Gilltown areas, to improve public safety.

Meanwhile, a motion from Cllr Brendan Wyse (FG) asks that the MD meeting agree to receive a deputation from Allenwood Community Group in relation to traffic safety at Allenwood Cross.
And similarly, the issue of improving pedestrian safety at the junction of Main Street and Prosperous Road, Clane is raised by Cllr Pádraig Mcevoy (IND).
The subject of street lights is what concerns Cllr Tim Durkan (FG), as he calls for the council to install a street light at Ladychapel Church, Maynooth, in the interest of pedestrian safety.
Cllr Paul Ward (FF) asks that the council undertake traffic calming measures on Church Street, Kilcock “to help alleviate traffic speeding into Kilcock town centre.”
While another motion from Cllr Ward calls for a speed review on Connaught Street, Kilcock following reports of excessive speeding in the area.
On a different note, Cllr Angela Feeney (LAB) asks for the council to provide a report from the Public Realm Team about the status of planned projects for Maynooth such as the Harbourfield, Main Street, Court House Square and the Carton Masterplan.
While Cllr Donna Phelan (FF) asks that the council write to Maynooth University “to highlight the ongoing parking issues being experienced across multiple residential estates in Maynooth as a result of the significant increase in student numbers without a corresponding increase in on-campus parking facilities.”
Last, but not least, Cllr Peter Melrose (SD) asks that the council consider a pilot project of installing mountable dog waste bag dispensers and a quarterly refill of bags at selected public bin locations in Maynooth and Kilcock.
