KWWSPCA volunteers teach Sallins scouts about animal care and pet care

The KWWSPCA was delighted to recently accept an invitation from the 23rd Kildare (Sallins) Scout Den to visit the Ladybirds and Brownies. Our volunteers had the pleasure of speaking to the girls about the importance of responsible animal care and helping them work towards earning their “Animal and Pet Care Badge”.

Volunteers Deborah Morrissey and Patti Edmonds represented the society on the day, accompanied by their much loved rescue dogs, Ruby and Pepper. The canine companions quickly stole the show, proving a huge hit with the children and adding a lively and memorable element to the visit.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for our volunteers to engage with a younger audience and to foster an early appreciation for the care and protection of animals.

The Ladybirds and Brownies, were a wonderful group of children, highly attentive throughout, showing great curiosity and enthusiasm as they learned about the animals in our care and the work involved in rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming them, as well as the responsibilities that come with pet ownership.

Of course, there was also ample time for cuddles and interaction with Ruby and Pepper, much to the delight of all present!

We were delighted and extremely grateful for the very kind and generous donations of food and goodies provided by the children for the dogs in our care. We have no doubt that these lovely donations will be received with great excitement and plenty of enthusiastic, wagging tails at the shelter! A huge and heartfelt thank you to all the children for thinking of our dogs and for spreading so much kindness. Your generosity has certainly brightened their day!

We continue to welcome opportunities to connect with the wider community and our volunteers are available to visit schools, businesses and community groups to deliver informative and engaging talks, and of course the chance to meet some of our rescue dogs.

Groups interested in arranging a visit are encouraged to get in touch by contacting us directly by email at [email protected]

As always, we would like to thank our wonderful supporters in the community, who enable us to continue our important work of caring for many animals in need.
