A man who appeared at Naas District Court on Thursday, June 8, has had his case sent forward for trial at Bray Circuit Criminal Court (BCCC).

Judge Desmond Zaidan sent Ivan Matuashvili, with an address given as the Citywest Hotel in Citywest County Dublin, but who is currently remanded in custody.

The court was told back in April that the 39-year-old was denied entry into a centre for asylum seekers.

This allegedly prompted him to attempt to drive into two security people.

Gardaí added that he was later found drinking in a forest.

It was further alleged that when he was arrested by gardaí and placed in the back of a garda car, he allegedly attacked gardaí sat beside him, and this caused such a tense situation inside the car that he allegedly caused a road traffic collision.

When he was eventually brought back to a garda station, he allegedly bit a female garda.

A photo of the injury was shown to Judge Desmond Zaidan,

It was heard that the accused denied ever driving the car after being cautioned by gardaí.

The defendant also alleged that he lost a tooth in the garda station.

A book of evidence was served against Mr Matuashvili by gardaí on the latest date.

Judge Desmond Zaidan agreed to send the accused forward for trial at the next sittings of BCCC, which will commence on June 20.

However, when BCCC was brought up by gardaí, he questioned the reason why the offence appeared in his court in the first place.

He remarked: "And then they wonder my lists are going bananas."
