Tributes paid to Kildare man remembered as 'a gentleman of great integrity'

A Kilcullen, Co Kildare man who passed this week has been fondly remembered as “a gentleman of great integrity.”

Gerry MacCloskey - Kilcullen, Kildare / Ballydehob, Cork / Clifden, Galway / and Derry - passed away peacefully on February 17 2026 in the loving care of Suncroft Lodge nursing home.

Gerry is predeceased by his beloved wife Marie and sister Eileen. He was a devoted father to Marc and Caragh and he will be deeply missed by his sisters Deirdre and Nuala, sister-in-law Clare and his beloved grandchildren Jesse, Luc, Sean and Myla, fondly remembered by his daughter-in-law Hilde, his son-in-law Jonathan and all who knew and loved him.

Gerry will be reposing at Clare and PJ Lydon's residence Logstown, Kilcullen, Co.Kildare (Eircode R56 R599) on Friday Feb 20 from 5pm until 7pm removal from there on Saturday Feb 21 to Newlands Cross Crematorium arriving for 1.30pm service which may be viewed on https://www.dctrust.ie/location/newlands-cross/chapel-webstream.html all welcome.

Tributes paid to Gerry this week on RIP.ie include: “We are both devastated to hear of Gerry's sad passing. A gentleman of great integrity, he also had a wicked sense of humour. He was a very loving and caring man and his family meant everything to him. He was excellent company and a great conversationalist. We have such lovely memories with Gerry at Claire & PJ's, the Abbey Glen, Connemara Safaris. He also loved a good singsong. Our deepest condolences to Caragh, Marc, Clare, PJ and all the extended family. We are so sorry we cannot be with you at this sad time. Goodbye old friend and rest in peace with your lovely Marie.”

And: “My deepest sympathies to Caragh, Marc and families. Deirdre, Nuala, Clare and PJ on the sad passing of Gerry. My thoughts and Prayers are with you all at this difficult time.”

While another mourner wrote: “Our Sincere Sympathy to all of Gerry’s family on your very sad loss. He was a true gentleman and always a pleasure to meet. May he rest in peace.”

And another added: “It is with sadness that I heard of the passing of Gerry. We were Shannon students together in the 60s and would meet on occasions during his time in Galway. Just one nice guy. May he rest in peace.”
