Cllr Claire O'Rourke tabled her question at a meeting of Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District

A Social Democrats councillor has called for an update on proposed landscaping works at the entrance to the Wonderful Barn/Barnhall Meadows in Leixlip.

In her question, which was tabled at a recent MD meeting, Cllr Claire O'Rourke stated that the landscaping works were committed to following an unauthorised encampment in 2025.

In its report, Kildare County Council stated that in September 2025, Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District stated that the area “at the entrance to the pump station” was in the ownership of the developer of Barnhall Meadows.

This area had not yet been taken in charge and was not under the control of Kildare County Council, the council stated.

The report stated: “When the estate is taken in charge by the Council, the Municipal District Office, the Parks Team in consultation with Uisce Éireann and the Public Realm Team for the Wonderful Barn Project will assess the area and determine a suitable ground treatment to prevent future use of this area for unauthorised encampments.

“Barnhall Meadows estate is still not taken in charge by Kildare County Council.”
