Entgertaining MHC ‘B’ final as Coill Dubh lift the cup by a single point

Coill Dubh captured the Future Ticketing MHC ‘B’ title at Manguard Park, Hawkfield, this evening (Friday 6 November) in a game they led for most of the way but in the end were hanging on as Sarsfields came within a point of them in time added on in a very entertaining game that certainly saw both sides giving it their all.

Sarsfields, playing into the town goal opened the scoring after two minutes with wing-forward Daithi De Lasa firing over.

It took Coill Dubh all of seven minutes before they opened their account Jack Byrne coming from half-back to split the posts.

Lots of action by scoring was somewhat difficult on a pitch that was difficult for players to hold their ground but on 11 minutes.

Coill Dubh’s Tadhg O’Haire showed great pace before finding Faolan Hayden off his left shoulder and the wing forward made no mistake firing past Eoghan Delahunty in the Sarsfield to lead 1-1 to 0-1.

Dathi De Lasa got his second and his side’s third point to leave just one between.

Two quick points from Dylan Daniels , free, ,and a lovely effort from Ben Shortt extended the lead.

Sarsfields hit back with a point from Conor Lawless but Ben Shortt replied, Rian Reilly Reilly added another and Sarsfields led 1-5 to 0-3 on 26 minutes.

Both sides had chances from a placed ball but none found the range as the half-time whistle arrived, Coill Dubh leading 1-5 to 0-4.

On the restart a brilliant run and point from MylesDarcy reduced the lead and while it took seven minutes before The Dubh replied it arrived after Ben Shortt was short with a scoring attempt but the sliothar arrived back to him, he was held up and he fired over the resultant free.

The boys in red were then hit with a big blow when centre-back, Adam Smyth was given a straight red for what seemed like a shoulder charge, Conor Lawless pointed the resultant free.

Dylan Daniels replied with a free, Lawless again with a placed ball left two between the sides mid-way through.

Substitute Callum Dunne fired over to push the lead out to three with 52 on the clock.

The point of the game arrived a few minutes later from Sarsfields when Fionn Clandillon hit a beauty from close to the sideline for The Sash to leave two in it; Rian Reilly Reilly, who had a fine game, made a brilliant catch to avert danger, Dylan Daniels pointed free, before landing a monster free to push the lead out to four.

Sarsfields were not done yet and when a ball broke in front of the Coill Dubh goal Aaron Moyland was on hand to find the net and reduce the lead to one with time running out.

Sarsfields poured forward, Dillian Delaney made a great clearance but Sarsfields came again looking for the equaliser but Daithi De Lasa, who had a great game for Sarsfields, had his point attempt brilliantly blocked by Rian Kelly as the full time whistle arrived, Coill Dubh holding on for a one point win.

Very entertaining game and while Coill Dubh were in charge for most of it they were very relieved when referee Mark Murphy blew the final whistle and a deserved one point win for Donnacha Hayden’s Coill Dubh on a final score line of Coill Dubh 1-10 Sarsfield 1-9.
