Swimming pool, jacuzzi, saunas, gym and treatment room are planned

MMA fighter Conor McGregor has lodged plans for a major extension to his €3 million home near Straffan, Co Kildare.

The proposed two-storey extension with a basement would expand the existing 1½-storey detached house to 1,646 sq metres (17,712 sq ft).

The basement would include a swimming pool, jacuzzi, saunas, gym and treatment room, while the ground floor would feature a chef’s kitchen, pantry, playroom, bar, games room, office, snug, dining and living rooms.

The first floor would contain six bedrooms, including a master suite with two balconies, a bathroom and “robe room”.

McGregor bought The Paddocks for €3 million in 2019 and the adjacent property for €1.65 million in 2022.

The application also seeks three-year planning retention for an existing 709 sq metre marquee-style gym and sports facility on the property.

Planning permission was granted in 2022 for an extension creating a 1,579 sq metre home, but that permission expires next March.

A separate application was invalidated by Kildare County Council in May.

Planning documents claim that the latest proposal will not affect neighbouring properties through overlooking, overshadowing or visual intrusion.
