Extra parking spaces suggested for this Kildare housing estate

The idea was shared by a local councillor
The creation of extra parking spaces has been suggested for one housing estate located in County Kildare.
Labour Party councillor Mark Leigh made the suggestion while in attendance at the latest Athy Municipal District (MD) meeting, which took place on Monday, July 20 last.
During the early stages of this meeting, Cllr Leigh, who was also elected as the MD’s new Mayor at the start of the meeting, motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to ‘look at unused green areas in Clonmullion Estate in Athy to provide extra parking spaces’.
His motion was seconded by Fianna Fáil Cllr Veralouise Behan.
It also found support in the form of his party colleague, Cllr Aoife Breslin.

Replying to Mayor Leigh’s motion, KCC had this to say: “The MD Engineer will investigate this matter; however, a funding stream and design would be required.”
Following this, Mayor Leigh told KCC that while he welcomed the report, he emphasised that the issue of parking in Clonmullion Estate ‘has been going on for years now’.
He claimed that the estate was first constructed in the 1980s, but with the region’s growing population, the lack of car parking spaces available there ‘is simply not good enough for today’s needs’.
Mayor Leigh also emphasised that he wanted unused green areas to be considered for the car parking spaces.
