Th final score-line tells the story in this Leinster PPS pre-quarter final clash between Patrician College Newbridge and St Mel's of Longford at Pierse Park, Longford this afternoon.
The final score reads St Mel's 4-12 St Mel's 2-6, with Mel's booking a place in the quarter-final while for Patrician this year's school journey comes to an end.
The first half was all one way traffic and while St Mel's had the benefit of a strong wind, nevertheless it was obvious that the Longford boys were the stronger outfit.
Leading 2-8 to 0-1 at the break, the goals coming from Andrew Flynn and Harry Mulville, while the Patrician only white flag came from the boot of Sam Ryan, a free.
Just two minutes into the second half Mel's were dealt a blow when midfielder Jack Bolton was shown a straight red. but despite that a few minutes later they scored goal number three when Michael Flynn set up Matthew Carey who found the Newbridge net.
Eoin Curtin and a goal from Harry Redmond, set up by Eoghan Dunne, gave the visitors a bit of hope and despite getting a second, Jack Mahony firing to the net from the penalty spot, there was no way back for the boys in black and yellow.
The winners added a late goal and booked their place in the last eight on a final score line of St Mel's 4-12 Patrician Newbridge 2-6.
