'You don't deserve an order - but I'll give it' Kildare judge tells woman

The woman told Naas District Court she had been assaulted and threatened
A judge consented to granting a woman a protection order at Naas District Court, though he said he didn’t think she deserved it.
The woman sought protection at a family law hearing from her ex-partner, who was not present or represented.
The woman alleged she was assaulted by him in April, six months previously. She also said they have a child together and she claimed she had been threatened recently.
Judge Desmond Zaidan commented that a number of months had elapsed since the woman was reportedly assaulted and she was only now coming to court.
“I’ll give you an order even though you don’t deserve it,” the judge said, adding he was doing so to keep the peace.
He added he was not satisfied the woman was at serious risk of immediate harm.
He also said he did not think the woman would show up for the subsequent hearing and he adjourned the case to April 12.
