Sallins
A group of Kildare residents are calling for action to be taken against barking dogs.
Naas Mayor Fintan Brett said there have been numerous complaints and said residents need to know who can deal with the issue which has been reported to the gardaí, Kildare County Council and the dog warden.
He said there are dogs in houses in Sallins that should not be there.
According to Kildare County Council complaints relating to dogs are referred to it under The Control of Dogs Act 1986.
Tenancy agreements outline tenant obligations in relation to the keeping of pets and animals and KCC “will engage positively with tenants where addresses are provided in relation to nuisance dogs.”
A tenant or complainant can also make a personal application to the district court, in relation to persistent nuisance caused by a barking dog.
Excessive dog barking which causes a nuisance to any person is an offence and KCC advises teh first approach should be to the neighbour/owner and “if this doesn’t work, you can make a complaint about excessive barking to the court but the dog owner must be told about this.
The court can make an order requiring the dog owner (or occupier of the house where the dog is kept) to exercise control over the dog to reduce the barking, limit the number of dogs that can be kept on a premises, or direct that a dog be delivered to a dog warden as an unwanted dog.
