Kildare County Council is resisting pressure to buy burial plots in a privately operated cemetery.

A call has been made for the  council to purchase burial plots from the owner of a private cemetery.

Cllr Bill Clear wants Kildare County Council to consider purchasing a number of plots from the private cemetery adjacent to Bodenstown Cemetery, on the outskirts of Sallins.

He said this should be done on behalf of the community in Sallins "given that this cemetery (Bodenstown) is nearly full."

According to KCC there is no perceived benefit to the community in having the council act as a “third party / intermediary” between the cemetery operator and the local population.”
