Public playground 'can't be used when it rains'

The playground at Monread Park

The public playground at Monread, Naas, is “unusable” if it rains for 20 minutes, according to a councillor.

This means, former Green Party councillor Bob Quinn told a Naas Municipal District meeting, that people are “being forced into their cars” to drive to an alternative venue.

Hewas upgrading work is needed on the playground but this is “being pushed into the future.”

He said that some work has been done at the playground but more is needed, adding that thousands of people live in the vicinity of the amenity.

Independent councillor Seamie Moore said that property had been given to other projects so major upgrading works won’t happen there overnight.

Kildare County Council official Simon Wallace said that the upgrading of the playground is not not being pushed into the future.

He said improvements have been done in Monread including drainage work last year.

He added A complete upgrade to the playground is proposed as part of developing a masterplan for the park. However work on this will not start until next year once works on Sallins amenity lands and De Burgh’s woodland garden have been completed.

He said these priorities were decided by the councillors.
