CAMPAIGNERS trying to help a Castledermot farmer keep his land say they had some success following a protest at the office of REA Coonan in Maynooth on Friday last, February 28.

A group of around 50 people from the Friends of Banking Ireland turned up at the office of the auctioneer and estate agent around 12 noon on Friday.

There asking that an 80 acre farm at Davidstown, Castledermot, owned by Paul O’Shay and family, be withdrawn from the market within 24 hours.

According to Friends of Banking spokesperson, Jerry Beades, Will Coonan, of REA Coonan, agreed to withdraw the property, being sold on behalf of Danske Bank, from sale.

Mr. Coonan told the Leinster Leader he would make no comment of any kind on the action.

Mr. Beades, whose group (www.fobi.ie) help property owners with debt issues.

He said 25 people occupied the public lobby of Coonan’s for two hours.

Mr. Beades said the group was eventually handed a letter by Mr. Coonan, confirming the withdrawal.

At one point the Gardai were called but no arrests were made.
