BREAKING: Dramatic scenes as Kildare firefighters tackle van fire near motorway

Kildare Fire Service personnel are at the scene of a freak fire just metres away from a busy motorway route.

It is understood that two fire tenders are in attendance.

The firefighters responded to a blaze, which is understood to have engulfed a white-coloured van, on the outskirts of Kilcullen.

The vehicle appears to have left the M9 just moments earlier and was at Junction 2, which serves as a key interchange linking the motorway with Kilcullen, Athy, Naas and Newbridge, via the R448.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured and it appears that no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

It's the second van fire to take place in the Kildare area in recent times.

On Sunday March 29, at around 7pm, a van burst into flames on the main street in Naas.

The vehicle, believed to be a commercial van, went on fire at the traffic lights which manage the flow of vehicles and pedestrians where North Main Street, Poplar Square and Sallins Road meet.

It happened at a pedestrian crossing where the lights govern both the traffic and the movement of crossing pedestrians.

There were no reported injuries.
