Several ranges of supermarket bagged spinach leaves have been taken off the shelves due to the detection of listeria.

Products supplied by Lidl, Aldi and Dunnes stores are among those affected. Retailers are advising customers to dispose of the packs.

The affected bags have best before dates between September 22 and 26.

The recall applies to Lidl Oaklands Irish Baby Leaf Spinach, Aldi Irish Baby Leaf Spinach, and Dunnes Stores Fresh, ready to wash spinach leaves; plus spinach sold under the McCormack brand.

Some mixed leaf bags sold by Dunnes, Aldi, Tesco and Supervalu are also affected.
