A garden centre in North Kildare has been refused planning permission for a storage warehouse/café extension and alterations.
Orchard Garden Centre (Celbridge), Ballyoulster was refused planning permission on March 25 2026 (application no. 2614).
The application was submitted to Kildare County Council on February 9 2026.
The proposed scheme consists of the following:
Proposed alterations to existing garden centre retail spaces including retention of first floor retail areas 574m2, new access and entrance.
Proposed new two-storey extension to provide a storage warehouse to the west of the site 903m2.
Extension to existing external canopy to the east for covered external retail 916m2.
Demolition of existing storage building and bungalow on site.
Extension and alterations to existing cafe including single storey extensions external food to go/BBQ area and staff area.
Converting and refurbishing existing listed bothy/hothouse for use as retail space. Protected structure ref: KD011-028.

Also included is proposed new signage and advertising totems to entrance, associated engineering works and site works.
The architect for the proposed development is Project Design Architects.
