Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer made the request at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, March 18 last.

Specifically, she motioned for KCC to install flashing beacon lights at the Pfizer roundabout in Newbridge "in order to facilitate a safe crossing route to an area of high employment".

According to Cllr O'Dwyer, she submitted the motion on behalf of Pfizer.

The motion was seconded by her party colleague, Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer.

In response to Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer's motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "Flashing beacon lights are not considered an appropriate intervention at this location.

KCC added: "An existing dished crossing illuminated by public lighting is already in place on the Great Connell arm of this junction."

Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer told KCC that she accepted the report.
