Extension sought for Centra branch in Kildare town

An extension could be on the cards for a Centra branch located in Kildare town.

According to the planning permission application, which is currently with Kildare County Council (KCC), John Brett wishes to make changes to Brett's Centra shop, which is located in the Maryville region of the town.

The applicant is seeking permission from KCC to make the following changes to the premises:

• To demolish the existing building on the Western side of the Centra Supermarket building
• To construct a new extension to the Centra Supermarket building on the Western side, for retail use and off-licence retail use
• To merge the vacant retail unit (Joana's Cakes Unit) on the Western side of the Centra Supermarket building into the Centra Supermarket building

In addition, Mr Brett is seeking permission from KCC for all associated external signage and site works.

The date received on the application is listed as March 18 last.

The submission-by and due dates are listed as April 21, 2026 and May 12, 2026 respectively.
