Healy's bridge in Prosperous, which was impacted by a vehicle on February 4 2026
Waterways Ireland has advised all masters of vessels and users of the Grand Canal that the 18th Level at Prosperous, Co Kildare is closed to navigation until further notice.
The closure follows a vehicular impact on Healy's (Bonynge) Bridge late on Wednesday, February 4 2026.
The collision caused bridge debris to enter the water and has resulted in damage to the parapet.
Waterways Ireland has stated that the damage poses “a significant risk” to navigation and public safety.

Waterways Ireland wishes to inform the public that as a consequence of the incident on February 4 last, the lowering of the 18th Level and associated works previously scheduled and detailed in Marine Notice No. 14 of 2026 is postponed until further notice.
A statement issued by Waterways Ireland read: “Waterways Ireland will issue a further update as soon as more information regarding the repair timeline and reopening becomes available.
“Waterways Ireland regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks canal users for their understanding and cooperation during this unplanned closure.”
