A school located in County Kildare is seeking planning permission from Kildare County Council (KCC) in order to make changes to its gym hall.

According to the planning permission application, which is currently with KCC, Coláiste Lorcáin Community College in Castledermot intends to make the changes to its gym hall.

The description within the application outlines the specific changes being proposed by the school:

  • The replacement of the existing double height external timber screens and doors to the gym hall with a glazed curtain walling system with solid aluminium spandrels and doors
  • The replacement of the existing high level external single glazed system to the gym hall with a double glazed curtain wall system
  • The installation of two Air Source Heat Pumps with 2.8 metre high perimeter screen enclosures
  • The installation of a vandal resistant EVC car charging local electrical enclosure, distribution board and dual car charging outlet

The date received on the application is listed as February 4 last, while the submission-by and due dates are listed as March 10, 2026 and March 31, 2026 respectively.

The official website for Coláiste Lorcáin Community College describes it as a medium-seized, mixed-gender secondary school.

It also says that the school has a 14:1 pupil to teacher ratio.

In addition to its gym hall, the school also has two football pitches and two basketball courts.
