The theft of shotguns from a South Kildare residence has prompted a garda investigation.

Details of the crime were highlighted on KFM earlier today (January 7) by Garda Shane Smyth, who made a guest appearance on one of the station's programmes.

He told host Hannah Kelly that the incident occurred on Monday, January 5 last, between 6.45pm and 7pm.

According to Gda Smyth, three males turned up to a residence in the Townparks region of Athy, and two of the three males proceeded to "ransack" the house while the homeowner was still present.

He added that the males stole two shotguns from the property before leaving the scene of the crime.
