A motorist who was driving in County Kildare is due to appear in court as they were spotted driving with a frozen windshield by gardaí.

Explaining the incident, the official An Garda Síochána Kildare page on Facebook explained: "Yesterday morning [January 5 last], in –4°C conditions, Naas Roads Policing Unit encountered this Jaguar being driven in Castledermot.

"The windscreen was completely frozen, except for a small gap scraped clear to look through.

"A new level of danger on our roads."

The account continued: "When the vehicle was stopped, it got even worse; the driver had no insurance to drive.

"The vehicle was seized and impounded.

"The driver will now face a very chilling court date."

WARNING

The page also issued the following warning to the general public: "Driving with an obscured windscreen is reckless, dangerous, and puts everyone at risk — pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users."

In addition, it reminded drivers to fully defrost all windows and mirrors, to ensure that one has valid insurance, and to make sure that one's vehicle is roadworthy before setting off.

Concluding its message, the account said: "Road safety is everyone’s responsibility — slow down, clear your car, stay safe, stay alive."
