The company had plans to open a second unit in Naas at Maudlins Avenue, off Dublin Road.
In September 2018, Kildare County Council refused the application because it went against part of the then County Development Plan which seeks to sustain and strengthen town centres.
The company sought approval for a 2,207 two storey premises with an off licence on 2,207 square metres.
A raft of residents living in the area expressed reservations about the proposal, including people living in The Maudlings, a housing area close to the planned development.
One criticised any removal of trees in the area because these form part of the overall environment of the area “providing a positive environment for the neighbourhood” as well as a screening for the industrial units to the rear and tackling pollution arising from vehicles in the area.
Lidl then appealed the decision to An Bórd Pleanála - but the company subsequently withdrew the appeal.
According to a company representative the Naas site was later sold off and is no longer owned by Lidl.
The representative added: “Lidl is actively seeking a second store in Naas.”
