Kildare County Council (KCC) has issued an important reminder to farmers and landowners throughout Kildare in relation to important regulations in place during the closed season and in preparation for the upcoming 2026 open season.
Announcing the reminder, KCC said: "The spreading and application of farmyard manure and organic fertiliser is prohibited in County Kildare until January 13, 2026.
"From this date, the application of farmyard manure and organic fertiliser may resume, provided that weather and ground conditions are suitable, all buffer distances are observed, and the correct application methods are used."
"Since January 1 last, the use of Low Emission Slurry Spreading (LESS) is compulsory on farms stocked at 100kg N / ha or above, and for all pig slurry applications."
In addition, KCC said: "The spreading of soiled water on land is prohibited until after December 31, 2025.
"From December 1 last, this restriction applies to all milk producers, including those producing winter or liquid milk.
"These measures are part of the EU (Good Agricultural Practices for Protection of Waters) GAP Regulations 2022, designed to protect water quality and prevent pollution."
