The motion is just one of many in the upcoming Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting

A Fianna Fáil councillor is to call for a traffic survey to be carried out on Ballygoran Road, Maynooth, Co Kildare following residents' concerns about increasing traffic on the rural road.

Cllr Donna Phelan will motion for the survey at the upcoming Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, to be held on Friday, November 6 2026.

The traffic survey, Cllr Phelan states, will establish traffic volumes, vehicle types and speeds, including during peak commuting and school transport times.

Cllr Phelan further asks for the council to report the findings to Members “to inform consideration of appropriate road safety measures.”

Separately, Cllr Phelan asks that the council reviews the effectiveness of the SCOOT Urban Traffic Control system in Maynooth, including detector locations, signal timings, signal plans and junction coordination.

The review, she states, should identify queue-spillback locations and recommend short-term measures to improve traffic flow pending delivery of the Maynooth orbital roads, “having regard to a resident population of over 18,000, a student population of approximately 18,500 with an estimated 6,000 students commuting by private car.”

Meanwhile, staying with the Transport section of the meeting, Cllr Angela Feeney (LAB) calls for improved signage and demarcation at the disabled parking bays at Laraghbryan Cemetery in Maynooth.

Cllr Daragh Fitzpatrick (FF) asks that the council considers moving the speed limit sign in Allen, “back closer to the crossroads in the interest of pedestrian safety.”

And again with Transport, Cllr Paula Mulroe (SD) asks the council to examine engineering solutions for traffic calming measures in the proximity of the Church in Cooleragh.

On a different note, Cllr Paul Ward (FF) calls on the council to arrange for the street drains on Church Street, Kilcock to be inspected and cleaned “as soon as possible”, given what he states as “recurring localised flooding in the area.”

A motion by Independent councillor, Pádraig McEvoy calls on the council to examine the roundabout on Sallins Road, Clane for improved pedestrian crossings at the junction of the R403, R407 and L10231.

Meanwhile, an important motion by Cllr Tim Durkan (FG) asks that the council carry out an access and safety audit for emergency services for housing estates in Maynooth.

Finally, a motion by Cllr William Durkan (FG) calls for an inspection of the condition of footpaths connecting Church View Lawns with Main Street, Prosperous and for the local authority to conduct necessary repairs “as a matter of urgency.”
