Christmastime can be particularly busy for Santa Claus.

However, the Leinster Leader has it on good authority that the jolly joy-giver, in addition to his wife Mrs Claus, will take some time away from their workshop in order to visit Kildare town later this week!

The celebrity couple, who have been married for hundreds of years at this point, will be appearing at the town's annual Christmas Lights Switch-On event.

The upcoming visit has been welcomed by former Kildare councillor for Fine Gael, Paddy Curran, and Sinn Féin TD for Kildare South, Shónagh Ní Raghallaigh.

Speaking about the event, Deputy Ní Raghallaigh said: "Santa and Mrs Claus will join us to officially light up the square, and we’re looking forward to the festive atmosphere they will bring.

"We’re also hoping to have a performance from a local school choir (weather dependent) to add to the occasion.

"It’s a wonderful opportunity for families and neighbours to come together and mark the beginning of aimsir na Nollag agus can cúpla amhráin Nollag."

COLLECTING CHRISTMAS LETTERS

In addition, she revealed that Santa and An Post will be working together in order to collect children's Christmas letters at the event.

Deputy Ní Raghallaigh concluded: "This is an event that Paddy Curran takes to the town annually and I am very proud to support him this year."

Mr Curran himself also told the Leader that he wished to express his gratitude towards local man Ollie Kearns for his role in helping to organise the Switch-On events for Kildare town over the years.

He added that Mr Kearns' son, Robert, will be joining his father for this year's iteration of the event.

And that's not all — Mr Curran revealed: "Louise Hennessy, the oldest shop owner in Kildare town, will be assisting Santa and Mrs Claus in turning on the lights."

Talk about having the highest honour in town!

The Christmas Lights Switch-On 2025 will take place at the town's Market Square on Friday, December 5, 2025.

It will begin at 5pm.
