Gardaí based in North Kildare are investigating after a taxi driver was assaulted and robbed in Leixlip.

The incident was highlighted on KFM earlier today (December 3) by Garda Marc Connolly, who appeared as a guest on one of the station's programmes.

Gda Connolly said in the early hours of Saturday, November 29 last, four men were in Dublin City Centre and booked a taxi.

One of the men was dropped off at Kilcock, while the others were brought to Leixlip.

However, once the men were brought to the Rinawade Avenue region of the town, the front seat passenger punched the driver and grabbed a sum of cash from the taxi.

The other two passengers, who were in the back of the vehicle, then kicked the driver.

All three subsequently fled the scene on foot.

Gda Connolly also told host Hannah Kelly that all three men were Irish and spoke with Dublin accents.

He also noted that one of the males was described as having short, dark hair and a "round" face.

Gda Connolly concluded by urging anyone with information relating to the incident to contact Leixlip Garda Station on 01 666 7800.

When asked by the Leinster Leader about this crime, a garda spokesperson responded: "Gardaí received A report of an incident of robbery that occurred at approximately 2am on November 29 last on Rinawade Avenue in Leixlip, County Kildare.

"A man aged in his 30s received non-life threatening injuries resulting from this incident that did not require treatment at the scene."

The spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing.
