Gardaí based in North Kildare are investigating an incident in which a woman was sprayed in the face with an unknown substance.

Details of the assault were read out on KFM earlier today (December 3) by Garda Marc Connolly, who appeared as a guest on one of the station's programmes.

He told host Hannah Kelly that the incident occurred on the Straffan Road in Maynooth (specifically near the Maxol Filling Station) on the evening of Wednesday, November 26 last.

According to Gda Connolly, a woman who at this location was approached by a man using crutches.

The man produced an aerosol can and sprayed her in the face with an unknown substance.

Gda Connolly added that the woman did not sustain any injuries, but stressed that gardaí are investigating the incident.

He also provided a description of the perpetrator — in addition to using crutches, the man is described as being a foreign national who was wearing a red hat, jeans, a black jacket and a checkered shirt at the time of the assault

He concluded by urging anyone with information relating to this crime to contact Maynooth Garda Station on 01 629 2380.

When asked by the Leinster Leader about this incident, a garda spokesperson replied: "Gardaí received report of an incident of assault that occurred at approximately 6.15pm on November 26, 2025 in Rail Park, Maynooth, County Kildare.

"No injuries were reported."

The spokesperson also said that investigations are ongoing.
