A well-known shopping centre located in County Kildare will host an event to celebrate International Day of People with Disabilities 2025 tomorrow (December 3, 2025).

Taking to social media to highlight the upcoming event, Newbridge Disability Access Group explained that it will be "a day dedicated to promoting understanding, inclusion, and support for the rights and wellbeing of people with disabilities".

The group further said: "To mark the occasion, our Newbridge Disability Access Group will be in the Whitewater Shopping Centre to showcase the work we do to make our community more accessible, welcoming, and inclusive for everyone."

Newbridge Disability Access Group concluded: "We’d love to meet you, chat about what we’re working on, and show you how you can get involved in improving access across Newbridge."

The event will take place from 10am to 4pm tomorrow.

BRIEF BACKGROUND

Newbridge Disability Access Group is just one of seven disability advocacy organisations which makes up the County Kildare Access Network (CKAN).

According to the official CKAN website, the group "works closely, as stakeholders, with Kildare County Council and other private and public bodies to monitor the ongoing development and improvement of the town’s infrastructure".

The website also notes that around 13 per cent of the population of County Kildare (or around 27,768 people) have at least one disability.

In addition, the website also points out Newbridge is home to the head office of KARE, in addition to its surrounding schools and sheltered housing for people with learning disability.
