The Mayor of a Municipal District (MD) located within North Kildare has expressed his condolences after two tragic incidents took place in Leixlip yesterday (November 24 last).
It was reported yesterday that a man’s body had been discovered in a reservoir after a woman was found seriously injured in a house in Leixlip.
A garda spokesperson explained: "Gardaí and emergency services attended at an incident at a house in Oaklawn West and a residential fire was extinguished.
"A female (aged in her 50s) was treated by emergency services and conveyed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown for treatment of serious injuries.
"The scene is being preserved for a technical examination."
The spokesperson added that shortly after this incident, the body of a male (aged in his 50s) was later recovered from the Leixlip Reservoir by the Garda Water Unit.
REACTION
Earlier today (November 25), the Leinster Leader asked the Mayor of the Celbridge-Leixlip MD, Labour Party Cllr Rupert Heather, for his view on the recent events in Leixlip.
In response, Mayor Heather said: "As the community comes to terms with these tragic events, there is still a sense of shock and disbelief.
"Our thoughts are foremost with the familly of the victim of this terrible attack and also the family of the deceased."
He also praised the emergency services "for their role in responding to the scene".
APPEAL
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed either incident to contact them.
Any persons who were in the areas of Oaklawn West, Leixlip, the N4 and the Leixlip Reservoir between 5.30am and 8am and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
