Kildare County Council (KCC) has been urged to improve access to a jetty located in South Kildare.

The call came from Labour Party councillor Aoife Breslin at the latest Athy Municipal District meeting, which took place on Monday, October 20 last.

She motioned for KCC to carry out works at Barrow Quay, Athy, in order to "upgrade the seating and create better accessibility to the jetty for people with reduced mobility".

Cllr Breslin also thanked Tus staff for "looking after" the region, but stressed her belief that the area "needs to be upgraded".

In response to her motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting: "An assessment of the seating will have to be carried out to see what work is necessary.

"A budget will have to be identified for any works required."

KCC also told Cllr Breslin that any issues relating to the jetty would have to be discussed with the Community Department.

In addition, a representative of KCC who was present at the meeting said that the council could potentially explore using Local Property Tax in relation to the suggested upgrades.
