Kildare County Council has advised drivers that there will be road closures in Athy every Tuesday for the next year to facilitate a weekly street market.
The council are implementing the following road closure commencing on Tuesday September 16:
The road at the east-side of Emily Square, Athy, from L4015- Leinster Street to R417 Meeting Lane junction.

All traffic is instead requested to these alternate routes, traffic approaching closure from North on R417 Stanhope Street should turn left at Stanhope Place and left onto Leinster Street. Proceed to N78.The third exit, then second exit will bring them back to the R417 via the new relief road.
Traffic approaching closure from West on Duke Street should turn right at Barrow Quay and proceed onto R417.
Traffic approaching closure from East on Leinster Street should turn left onto Barrow Quay and proceed onto R417.
The road closure will occur every Tuesday until September 15, 2026.
Kildare County Council has assured motorists that diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, as agreed with the Council and An Garda Síochána. Emergency access and restricted local access will be maintained.
