The Kildare Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland has paid tribute to one of it's founding members, Kathleen Murphy, who passed away last week.
In a post on Facebook, the group said; "Kathleen had the foresight and determination to set about creating the Kildare branch after travelling to Dublin 40 years ago for a meeting with the Down Syndrome Association. Kathleen put ads in the local newspaper and newsletters to welcome all families in Kildare to the first meeting of the Kildare branch and took on the role of first Branch Secretary.
"Kathleen was a wonderful caring, kind and gentle Lady. She was an inspiration to all us parents who came after her. We owe her a debt of gratitude. Many younger parents and their children who may not have known Kathleen are still benefiting from the great work and trailblazing she did over many years. Kathleen's legacy will live long after her. Kathleen was a tower of strength and a voice of wisdom for all of us who worked in the branch down through the years.
"All members and Families in the Kildare branch of Down Syndrome Ireland salute you Kathleen, you have left an everlasting legacy behind you."
Kathleen, who resided at Moore Park, Newbridge is late of late of Barrettstown & (Murphy’s fabric). She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She will be hugely missed by all her family and friends.
Her funeral takes place at 11am this morning at St. Conleth’s Parish Church with burial afterwards at St. Conleth’s Cemetery, Newbridge.
