Landscape mounds (raised areas of land) could be used to prevent illegal encampments in Rathangan, according to Kildare County Council (KCC).
The suggestion was heard at the latest Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District meeting, which took place on Wednesday, June 18 last.
The potential of landscape mounds was raised in response to a motion from Fianna Fáil councillor Brian O'Loughlin.
He motioned for KCC to install bollards "along the entrance of Beechgrove / The Meadows housing estates in Rathangan to prevent the repetition of previous unauthorised encampments in the area".

Cllr O'Loughlin’s motion was seconded by his party colleague, Cllr Rob Power.
However, KCC told Cllr O'Loughlin via the report it presented at the meeting that it does not find bollards "to be beneficial in preventing unauthorised encampments".
KCC added: "Landscape mounds could be considered, subject to identifying a budget."
Cllr O'Loughlin told KCC that he accepted the response contained in its report.
