The schedule for US Senator Bernie Sanders' visit to Kildare this weekend has been revealed.
The initial announcement about Bernie Sanders, who previously attempted to secure the Democratic presidential nominations in 2016 and 2020 respectively, was made by the Mayor of Athy, Labour Party councillor Aoife Breslin, at the conclusion of the latest Athy MD meeting on Monday, May 19 last.
She told those in attendance that the Vermont-based independent politician, alongside his wife, Dr Jane O'Meara Sanders, will visit Athy on the afternoon of Sunday, May 25 in order to unveil a plaque commemorating the song 'Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye'.
In addition, Mayor Breslin said that tickets will soon be available for the event through Eventbrite.
Now, Kildare County Council's acting Arts Officer, Eláine Donnelly (alongside Mayor Breslin) has revealed the schedule for Bernie Sanders' visit, which can be viewed below:
2pm: Welcome by Mayor of Athy, Cllr Aoife Breslin, at Athy Library, Convent Lane, Athy (40 mins). Contributions by Bernie Sanders and Jane O'Meara Sanders. Presentations to Bernie and Jane O'Meara Sanders.
3pm: Unveiling of the Made of Athy plaque, St Michael’s Cemetery, Athy. Unveiling of plaque by Jane O'Meara Sanders commemorating the folk song 'Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye'. Introduction by Colm Walsh.
3.30pm: Traditional music session in O'Briens, Emily Square, Athy.
