Over 300 motorists set to be fined for parking in disabled spaces in Kildare this year

Well in excess of 320 motorists are likely to be fined for parking in disabled parking places across County Kildare this year.

That is if the fines for the first three months are indication of what’s likely to happen for the remainder of 2025.

According to Kildare County Council fines were imposed on 275 drivers in 2023 and the figure was 255 for last year.

But 81 fines were handed out between January and March 2025, which proportionally indicates indicates a dramatic increase.

KCC regulates parking bye-laws in 12 towns.

A maximum stay period operates for all parking bays covered by the bye-laws including accessible parking bays which are referred to as disabled parking bays and traffic wardens employed by KCC’s pay parking contractor monitors driving habits. 

The fine for parking in a disabled parking bay without an appropriate permit is €150.

The council intends to review the locations of disabled parking bays “to ensure that there are sufficient numbers and appropriately situated bays available for the convenience of disabled drivers.”
