Kildare Gardaí are investigating after stained glass windows in a historic 19th Century building were smashed. 

The incident happened at the Chapel in The Abbey wedding and events venue in Athy on Thursday, April 10 at 4.15pm.

Youths were see throwing stones at the Chapel, where wedding ceremonies are held. 

The Chapel was built in 1852 and has its original stained glass windows.

It's believed that the cost of repairing the windows will be substantial. 

Anybody who noticed anything suspicious on Stanhope Street or Mount Hawkins areas at the time of the incident are asked to contact Athy Gardaí.
