A councillor said that he was left dissatisfied following the response from Kildare County Council (KCC) to a motion he submitted in relation to St Catherine's Park.

Fine Gael Cllr Paul Brooks expressed his views to KCC when he appeared at the latest Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District meeting by virtual means on Friday, March 21 last.

Specifically, he motioned for KCC to install toilet facilities in St Catherine's Park, "given that there are a number of [sports] clubs now using the pitches across multiple codes".

In response to his motion, KCC said via its report at the meeting: "There are no plans or funding to provide toilet facilities in St Catherine's Park.

"There are already dressing room and toilet facilities on the opposite side of the boundary with Fingal County Council which have previously been available to the clubs."

KCC added that it will check the current status of these facilities with Fingal County Council and will subsequently update the members.

However, Cllr Brooks told KCC that he was left "a little bit dissatisfied" by its response.

Explaining his view, Cllr Brooks said: "There a lot of groups using these facilities. I think there is a responsibility within KCC to provide these toilet facilities, so I would like to see possibility of [securing] funding being explored."

Social Democrats Cllr Nuala Killeen also expressed her support for Cllr Brooks, adding: "On Saturdays, the park is full. From a practical point of view, we need to have a plan over the next year or two."

Simon Wallace, an official with KCC, told the members: "It has to be considered that the facilities are on the other side of the hedge [closer to Fingal].

However, he did emphasise that KCC is interested in exploring a solution to the problem.

"If there is a lack of capacity, we can look at [what KCC can do] on our side of the pitches," Mr Wallace added.
