A notice has been issued by Kildare County Council (KCC) in relation to the upcoming expiration of non-principal private residence liability.
KCC said in a statement: "The council wishes to advise landlords and second homeowners of the expiration of the Non-Principal Private Residence (NPPR) liability and charge on property.
"The NPPR charge, which was applicable from 2009 to 2013, affected any residential property, which the owner did not reside as their normal place of residence."
KCC continued: "Under the Local Government (Charges) Act, 2009, the legislation will be repealed in its entirety on March 31, 2025.
"After this date, liability for NPPR charges, late payment fees and any associated charges on a property, will expire completely. Consequently, vendors will no longer be required to provide a Certificate of Discharge or Exemption to sell their property."
KCC concluded by saying: "Following the repeal of the Act, local authorities will no longer issue receipts or Certificates of Discharge or Exemption."
In addition, KCC said those seeking further details on NPPR can visit nppr.ie/Home/ or NPPR - Kildare County Council.
