A suite of poems set to an ear-pleasing mix of music will be coming to an arts centre located in County Kildare.
The project is a musical adaptation of "Immram", a suite of poems by Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill first published in her "Feis" collection (1991). The title roughly translates as "voyage", and is a type of story found commonly in mythological Irish writing, which describes a protagonist's journey by sea to the otherworld..
The ambitious project will feature Eithne Ní Chatháin / Inni-K as the vocalist; Lucia Mac Partlin on the fiddle; Eilís Lavelle on the harp; and Neil Ó Lochlainn on double bass and flute.
According to the organisers, in 2019, Mr Ó Lochlainn was commissioned by poet Paddy Bushe and the Amergin Solstice Poetry Festival to set the poems to music.
The organisers added that the show will employ "the Sean-Nós singing style, blending jazz and improvisation with contemporary classical and Irish traditional music to create an innovative post-genre style of contemporary Irish chamber music".
