Information meeting on Newbridge skatepark

Proposed location of Newbridge skatepark

A special information day has been organised to inform people about the proposed plans for the long awaited Newbridge skatepark.

Kildare County Council last week announced it will hold an informal drop in information session at Newbridge Town Hall on Wednesday November 16 from 6pm to 8pm. Representatives from the Parks Section will be there to answer any questions members of the public may have on the proposal.

The skatepark, if approved, will be located across from Dunnes Stores at the green area beside Woodies car park on the Moorefield Road, Newbridge. The plans are now available to view by clicking here, or at Kildare County Council of Newbridge library. They will be on display until November 11.

Submissions can be made by the public to the Park’s Superintendent, Kildare County Council by November 25.

There has been a lengthy campaign to find a suitable home for a skatepark in Newbridge. Some local residents have come out against the park with fears it will bring anti-social behaviour and illegal parking. The skatepark campaigners say this is not the case as the park will be overlooked by a busy road and can be viewed openly, ruling out possible anti-social behaviour.

Once all the submissions are received, a report will be filed on all the views expressed. Ultimately it will be up to the councillors on the Kildare Newbridge Municipal District to analyse the information presented and make a decision.
