ISPCA calls on Kildare patrons to be the miracle for animals in need
ISPCA Ireland is urging the public to support the organisation’s critical work rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Ireland’s most vulnerable animals

The ISPCA Ireland’s leading animal welfare organisation has launched its 2024 Christmas Appeal, urging the public to support the organisation’s critical work rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Ireland’s most vulnerable animals. The ISPCA are also asking the public where they are considering getting an animal for their family or loved one to consider #AdoptDontShop, as rescue centres across the country face capacity challenges.
ISPCA Chief Inspector Conor Dowling shares the realities of everyday life as an Inspector. He said, “We see unimaginable cruelty—animals cold, starving, abused, or simply abandoned. But we also see hope. Every donation, no matter how small, can transform despair into joy for an animal who has never known kindness. Your generosity will help ensure that suffering animals get the help they need this Christmas season. Together, we can give abused and neglected animals a second chance at life. Please donate and if you can, adopt a rescued animal but don't shop to fuel the demand for unscrupulous breeders.”
Many wonderful animals are patiently waiting for loving homes, the story Conor shares serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for action. Many animals have endured years in a filthy, cold kennel, or confined in cages or on chains without a dry, comfortable bed. But thanks to the ISPCA and the kindness of donors, these animals can enjoy a new life of love and care. This Christmas, be the miracle for animals in need – donate today and help us save lives!
Denise McCausland, ISPCA National Head of Animal Welfare, explains how adoption can save lives:
“Our kennels are at full capacity, with countless animals yet to be reported and rescued, in desperate need of these life-saving spaces. By adopting a pet, not only are you giving an animal a chance at a better life, but you’re also making room to help another in need. During this season, we also urge the public to avoid buying puppies online or supporting rogue breeder. Unscrupulous breeders exploit demand, often selling sick, poorly cared-for animals under false pretences.”
She continues:“It’s also vital to ensure you’re ready for the long-term commitment of caring for a pet. Animals deserve a lifetime of love and stability—not just a seasonal gesture. Adoption saves lives, and it’s the ultimate act of kindness.”
