Among many cuisines emerging in Ireland, Mexican food has yet to fully break the Emerald Isle. However, Saburritos in Naas is a new addition to the advancing pack serving the typical Mexican classics like Tacos, Burritos, Nachos and much more.

Partial to both spice and salsa myself, I visited the Saburritos at 31 North Main St. Naas. The choices for the base of your meal are first with tacos, quesadillas, nachos and bowls all available, but for my dinner there was only one choice, a burrito.

Next up was the contents and I went for the Barbacoa de res, or seven-hour slow cooked steak to you and me, with Mexican rice and black beans.

That would be topped with Saburittos’ medium salsa option, salsa verde, and some garlic sauce to finish and just like that, it was time to taste.

My Order

The range of beautifully prepared ingredients listed above are ready to go which means your order is being prepared the moment that you decide what you want. I sat in for my meal, but this near-immediate service undoubtedly lends itself to an easy takeaway option.

A couple of minutes after I decided my fillings, I chowed down on my burrito and received all the flavour and spice that one would welcome on a cold winter night. It was 6:30pm when I visited, and therefore pitch black, but this meal was undoubtedly a spark to the harsh evening.

The star of the show was no surprise with slow cooked pulled steak as part of the offerings, which was superbly complimented by the typical Mexican flourishes and chiefly by the salsa verde and garlic finish.

At €11.90, this was a more than filling dinner option and that is coming from a man no stranger to indulgence. While that represents bargain territory compared to many eating out for dinner options, that price-point may startle younger readers, but fear not there are student meal options aplenty.

Your Order

Having heard my choices, what are yours? If steak isn’t your thing, Saburritos can offer you any of marinated chicken, Chill con carne, or even chorizo and lamb as your meat option with a flavourful falafel for the vegan and vegetarian crew.

You have your choice of beans or even sautéed vegetables to follow alongside either Mexican or cilantro rice. The three salsa options ascend in spice order from mild to brave with my middle option being very manageable should anyone need reassurance. The finishing note is the sauce and you have eight options ranging from chipotle to sour cream and many in between.

School and Student Deals

Saburritos school meal offerings run from Monday to Friday with a kids burrito and any 330ml can coming in at just €8.50 for those hungry for a lot more than just learning.

For students, the offer is even better with any meal and any 330ml can for just €10.99.

The new range - French-styled Tacos; Saburritos has also launched a new range of what they are calling French-styled Tacos, but to my eye look like a beautiful blend of Mexican cuisine and a classic panini. These special tacos come with six different meat and vegetable fillings including crispy chicken, pulled beef and chorizo-lamb sausage. These cheesy wonders come in medium(€8.50), large (€9.90) and extra-large (€11.50) sizes depending on your appetite on a given day.

As well as the typical range of soft drinks, Saburritos offers access to a coffee machine as well as a kids menu with chicken wings and mozzarella cheese sticks. For those with a sweet tooth, you can finish your meal with any Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavour you can think of.

If you’re in Naas or just passing through, give this new Mexican marvel a go to delight your taste buds.
