A new playpark is officially now open for all in Allenwood.

Kildare County Council opened the playpark, which covers an area of 3,200 square metres, on Monday, May 27 last.

Commenting on the launch of the new development, the Kildare Public Participation Network (also known as Kildare PPN) said: "Kildare County Council is pleased to announce the opening of a new playpark featuring a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), Playground Outdoor Gym and BMX Pump Track.

"The completion of this project marks a significant milestone in Kildare County Council’s ongoing commitment to providing exceptional recreational facilities for the local community.

"The project was funded through contributions from Development Levies, local property tax, and Drehid community grants scheme."

Kildare PPN also said: "The playpark aims to create an environment where children, young people, and families can come together to engage in active play and enjoy the outdoors.

"A diverse range of activities is offered to allow children of all ages and abilities to play, interact and socialise together.

"With this new playpark, MUGA, and Pump Track, Kildare County Council strives to create a space that will foster a sense of fun, adventure, and camaraderie, while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle for all," the organisation concluded.

The opening of the playpark was also welcomed by Pádraig McEvoy, an Independent county councillor representing the Clane-Maynooth Municipal District.

Cllr McEvoy told the Leader: "The long-planned playground is a welcome development for the growing community in Allenwood and the surrounding areas.

"Nearby Fine Gael Cllr Brendan Wyse, other public representatives, council officials, and members of the Allenwood community have worked hard over recent years to deliver the playground."

"The facilities will be an important resource for the development of children in the area," he added.

Cllr Brendan Wyse, also welcomed the news: "Allenwood Playground has been a long running Allenwood Tidy Towns project, and as secretary and having a young daughter myself, I did take the lead on the playground, but our chairperson, Martina O'Neill, was always there to guide us and our member, Wilfie Cronin, had done the groundwork well before I came on board eight years ago.

"It has been the great work of the Parks team in Kildare County Council, excellently led by Simon Wallace, that saw the €650,000 playpark completed and thanks to them for providing this amenity for our area, and to all the local councillors for backing it to the end.

"A special mention for the board and staff of the Allenwood Community Development Association Limited, past and present, who have given this secure site to the community; their contribution is very much appreciated," Cllr Wyse concluded.
