An American tourist has praised an Offaly man's good deed after he spotted her in trouble on the side of a busy road.

Diane Glaub posted on the Love Ireland Facebook page after returning home from her 10-day trip to Ireland. She recalled a hairy experience on the way from Dublin to Galway when the tyre on her rental car "shredded."

She posted: "Just returned from 10 days in Ireland. So much beauty and kindness. Unfortunately, our trip started a little rough.

"Thirty minutes into our drive from Dublin to Galway our tyre shredded and destroyed the rear wheel well. Thankfully, Herman, from Condron Concrete Works in Tullamore, saw what happened and pulled in right behind us.

"Without hesitation he changed our tyre and assisted us in calling our rental company. When offered euros for helping us, Herman said, 'No, this is what people from Ireland do'."

Diane also gave a shout out to Colin at Moyvalley Tyre Centre in Kildare who "stopped what he was doing to assist us and get us quickly back on the road".

"Our group has so many great memories of our trip, but the kindness of these gentlemen will not be forgotten," she concluded.
