An Garda Síochána has released a witness information appeal following a fatal incident in Kilcock which occurred yesterday.
A garda spokesperson provided an update on the incident: "Gardaí are investigating a fatal assault of a man that occurred between 3pm and 4pm on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at a residence on School Street in Kilcock, County Kildare.
"A man in his 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"His body remains at the scene.
"A post-mortem examination will be conducted on the morning of, Friday, February 9, 2024, at the mortuary at Naas General Hospital by State Pathologist Sally Ann Collis."
They added that the scene on School Street remains preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
Furthermore, the spokesperson said: "This investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) at Leixlip Garda Station and a Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to liaise with the family of the deceased.
"A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of this investigation. He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Kildare."
The spokesperson also announced that An Garda Síochána is appealing to any persons who were in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm, and observed any activity which drew their attention, to come forward.
The appeal reads as follows: "Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leixlip Garda Station on 01 6667800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
